As with all Caledonians he is quite a character. His cape is customary dress for any Scotsman with the ornate brooch holding it in place. He is ringing in Christmas and has the Bagpipes ready to pipe in the New Year or Hogmany as it is called in Scotland. There is a tradition where the first foot over the door will symbolise the luck for the rest of the year. It is said that a dark haired stranger must on the stroke of midnight knock three times on the door and then enter and if he bears coal the home will have heat for the year. If he bears a gold coin they will have money for the year and if he bears bread they will have food for the year, hopefully he will have all three.
